Paint manufacturers created PaintCare to provide convenient places to recycle leftover paint, such as paint retail stores and paint drop-off events. To learn more or find a year-round PaintCare drop-off site near you, visit www.paintcare.org or call (855) PAINT09.
MercedFree Paint Giveaway Event for Households & Businesses
PaintCare is giving away leftover paint in good condition to households and businesses in the Merced area as part of California’s statewide paint stewardship program. Through PaintCare leftover paint is collected at over 800 drop-off sites across California for reuse and recycling. Paint reuse (using up and giving away leftover paint) is a cost effective, efficient method of managing leftover paint that is beneficial to the community. Reuse and recycling divert leftover paint from the waste stream and the environment and put it to good use.
Attendees will be able to browse partially filled containers of a variety of products including latex- and oil-based paints, primers, and stains. Color options and volumes are not guaranteed. Paint is given away on a first-come, first served basis. Attendees will be limited to taking less than 25 gallons of free paint.
ACTEnviro Transfer Station is also a year-round drop-off site for paint recycling. Event attendees may drop-off leftover paint during this event and on other days. See below for accepted products and business limits.
Containers must have original manufacturer labels. This event is for the following products only:
House paint and primers (latex or oil-based)
Stains Deck and concrete sealers
Clear finishes (e.g., varnishes, shellac)
No leaking, unlabeled, or empty containers
No aerosol spray paints
No drums or containers larger than 5 gallons
We cannot accept other hazardous waste or chemicals such as paint thinner, solvents, motor oil, spackle, glue, adhesive, roofing tar, pesticides, cleaning chemicals
To use the PaintCare program for oil-based products, a business must qualify as an exempt generator under federal and any analogous state hazardous waste generator rules. Please visit the Very Small Quantity Generator page for more information on exempt generator rules. If your business does not qualify as an exempt generator, it can use the PaintCare program for water-based products but not oil-based products.
